According to an April 11 New York Times article by John Ismay, a Pentagon reporter and former naval officer, more than 400 books have been removed from the Naval Academy's library, including Maya Angelou's autobiography, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.

Two copies of Hitler's Mein Kampf remain. I have no objections to Mein Kampf being included in the library, as this is an artifact of the demented mind of one of history's most hideous human beings, and people should never forget that such books exist and have had a powerful, destructive, and murderous effect on human history.

Also gone is Memorializing the Holocaust, in which Janet Jacobs examined "how female victims of the Holocaust have been portrayed and remembered."

The Bell Curve remains, which argues that Black men and women are genetically inferior. A critique of the book has been pulled.

Political appointees in the Department of the Navy's leadership removed the books.

This is blatantly fascist and an attempt to deny Naval Academy students easy access to valuable books. Let's call it what it is---part of the Republican Party's effort to spread the doctrine of white supremacy.

Republicans in the House and Senate remain silent. If the Republican Party was ever great, that ship has sailed and been replaced by a bunch of cowards who are willing to say nothing as our country has seated a fascist government.

To those who are okay with this, remember that eventually the cannon might be pointed at you.
