What a beautiful creature!
What a beautiful creature!

Back when I was a Republican, in the late 1970's and early 1980's, I barely paid attention to politics and sort of went with the flow of my moderate Republican parents. I was just a college boy, trying to figure out what to do with my life while chasing women and drinking beer.

Then Ronald Reagan said greed is good, and I thought, no, I really don't think it is. This greed is good bit helped kick off the idea that the most important thing about a corporation is its stock price, which I don't believe is true. Trickle down economics does not work. Whoever called Reagan's plan voodoo economics was right.

Then Ronald Reagan, while looking to cut the school lunch program budget, said ketchup is a vegetable, which it is not. Fuck the poor!

Then Ronald Reagan fired all the nation's air traffic controllers when they went on strike, and decreed that they could never again work as air traffic controllers nor work federal jobs. While living in Florida and waiting tables at a banquet hall, I saw firsthand how one family was affected by Reagan's heartless decision. Ken, a former controller, bartended while his wife Marilyn waited tables. They were trying to piece their lives back together after the loss of a more than stable income. They eventually divorced.

So much for unions!

And so much for me being a Republican.
