Work from Truth

We all need to work from facts when we make big decisions in life.

Small decisions, who cares? If Miller High Life calls itself the champagne of beers and people drink it for that reason, then no damage is done to meaningful truth. It would be trivial to argue that some other beer is really the champagne of beers. Small taters!
Consuming the news is a different matter. No doubt people of all backgrounds will believe what they want to believe without checking whether or not it is true, but should they?
Of course not! Thus, I highly recommend that anyone who actively or passively consumes news check in with factcheck.org once a week. Factcheck scrutinizes the words and policies of all major public figures and also tracks faulty information that surfaces on the Internet.
Factcheck is as unbiased a source as you are likely to find. If Joe Biden bends the truth, they bust him. Same for Trump. Public figures get busted by Factcheck when they lie or present partial truths.
If you happen to talk politics with people whom you know have bought into a false agenda that is backed by unchecked "news" sources or Internet bullshit, then you have probably already figured out you are wasting your time.
In the Trump era, most divided friends and families have found ways to avoid talking politics because they want to enjoy each other peacefully. As a Democrat Party Chair in a heavily Republican county, I have talked to many Democrats and some non-Trump Republicans whose families have been damaged by political disagreements. That's unfortunate but real.
For anyone who must engage with someone who is truth averse, I recommend that you issue the Factcheck.org challenge to them. Ask them to visit Factcheck.org daily for five days, and see if they will accept the challenge. If they don't, then you know for sure that you are wasting your time talking to them because they don't give a damn about the possibility that they might be consuming false information.
If they do care about the truth, perhaps they will be enlightened a bit, especially when they see that Factcheck exposes lies and liars across politics and platforms.
That might be the best you can hope for.
